CBSE Class 8 History Notes Chapter 1 How, When and Where
Introduction:
History is about changes that occur over time.it is about finding out how things were in the past and how things have changed in the present. sometimes people ask questions out curiousness which are actually historical. for example, when did people begin to drink tea or coffee?, when where railways built? and how did people travel long distances before the age railways?. all these questions encourage us to think about time.
Importance
of Dates:
§ Dates play a significant role in
history. History is associated with dates as specific dates can be determined
for the events in the past. History in the past was an account of battles and
big events. It was about the rulers and their policies.
§ There can be specific dates for
events such as when a king was crowned, when he fought a particular war, and
when the next ruler succeeded to the throne. Thus, dates become important in
history.
§ Sometimes, it is incorrect to fix
specific dates to processes that happen over a period of time. For example, a
single date cannot be fixed for the establishment of British rule or the
beginning of the national movement. All these happened over a period of time.
vSet of Dates which are Important :
§ Dates are not important on their own. They become significant by focusing on a particular set of events as important. By changing the focus of study and looking at new issues, a new set of dates will become important.
For example, in the histories written by the British historians in India, the rule of each Governor-General was important. These histories began with the rule of the first Governor-General Warren Hastings and ended...…..
